Buildings of the future

In the future, buildings (new buildings and renovations) will have to fulfil complex requirements in terms of resources, costs, energy, technology, security and use. The portfolio of the ACR institutes in the area of Sustainable Building comprises building materials research, building technology and security, fire protection, energy optimisation, innovative building concepts and healthy accommodation as well as studies on the energy efficiency and life cycle costs of buildings.

Focus

A) Sustainability

  • Low running costs during operation: life cycle costs
    Building costs/usage & maintenance costs/disposal costs
  • Subsequent adaptability over the life cycle (changed use, demographic change, socio-cultural aspects)
  • Availability and regionality of materials
  • Ecological footprint

B) Energy efficiency

  • Healthy accommodation in energy-optimised buildings (quality, living comfort, room air/heating, freedom from immissions)
  • Thermo-active building components
  • Structural consequences of climate change
  • Building technology (regulation & control, system & energy supply concepts, sensors & actuators)

C) Building security

  • Protection against natural influences (hail, storm, water, etc.)
  • Personal security (incl. accessibility)
